Smart Meters
A Smart Meter or Interval Meter is one in which, typically, provides consumption data in half-hourly periods or intervals (providing over 4 000 readings in a three month period). A smart meter identifies consumption data in more detail than basic (accumulation) meters which accumulate consumption data until it is read.
AMRS has been installing electricity, gas and water meters since 1995. Our team of dedicated staff have researched and resourced the best Smart Meters and knowledge to suit Australian conditions and State legislative requirements.
We have the experience, personnel, training and project management skills to ensure your rollout of Smart Meters is seamless.
Western Power Smart Meter Program (WA)
In August 2005, AMRS was awarded the contract for the Western Power Single Phase Meter Exchange Program. The contract involves the exchange of approximately 101 000 single phase meters to be replaced with new Interval (Smart) Meters. In year one of the contract 40 000 meters across 131 suburbs were exchanged, exceeding the contracted annual program by over 2 500 meters.
AMRS uses its unique Mobile Field Work Management System in the implementation of the Western Power Smart Meter program. This system provides many benefits for a large scale installation/ exchange program. The back end system is designed to manage, sequence, allocate, track and report on field services such as meter exchange. The front end system provides field based staff with the flexibility to receive and transfer work live from the field.
As part of the program, AMRS has implemented and manages a Customer Service System providing two way communication between end customers (householders) and AMRS via a Call Centre operation, mail outs and face-to-face interaction. All AMRS staff have graduated from our specialist customer service program ensuring end customers' needs are understood and catered for.
ETSA Utilities
AMRS recently commenced a smaller scale roll out of smart meters in South Australia for ETSA Utilities, SA’s electricity distributor. This program may help to set the scene for an eventual full scale implementation of smart meter technology in that state.
Victorian AIMRO Project.
The Victorian government has mandated the implementation of smart electricity meters in every home by 2012. This includes the provision of meters, communications technology, meter data management systems and installation services.
AMRS has already been involved in installing meters for the trial stages and plans to be heavily involved in the full scale rollout commencing 2008.
In Home Display (IHD)
In Home Displays (IHDs) are devices which receive information from Smart Meters and bring it directly into the home, allowing customers to monitor exactly how much energy and water they are consuming. IHDs can also be used to control appliances such as air conditioners. This functionality allows consumers to work in collaboration with utilities to automate a premise's appliances. For example, a customer may choose to allow a utility to control a household air conditioner's thermostat depending on the grid's electricity demand at any particular time. In return the householder could enjoy cost associated savings on their power bill.
AMRS is able to install In Home Display units to suit your customers' needs. Our team of Installation Officers are specially trained in the installation and use of In Home Display units and have all graduated from our specialist customer service program.
